RBAP ANNUAL CONVENTION

The Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), the national association of rural banks, conducted its 66th Annual National Convention and General Membership Meeting with a theme: Bridging the Gap in Financial Inclusion at the Cordillera Conference Hall of the Baguio Country Club, Baguio City last May 20-21, 2019.
One highlight of the two-day event is the annual elections of the RBAP which was conducted by the Electoral Board headed by Ives Nisce.The convention focused on solutions on how to narrow the gap in financial inclusion in the countryside. One of these is the close working relationship between RBAP and the government which will make banking easier. Technology advances also open new opportunities in accelerating rural bank’s ability to deliver financial services to the unbanked. According to BSP, technology widens the reach of rural banks and is a vital vehicle for greater financial inclusion. With the digital transformation of the banking system, the BSP is optimistic that the rural banking industry can emerge as a strong and dependable delivery channel in providing banking services.
STOCKHOLDERS’ MEETING

Rang-ay Bank held its annual Stockholders’ Meeting at the bank’s Head Office in San Fernando City, La Union last April 28, 2019.
Chairman of the Board, Ives Nisce recognized the hardwork and dedication of officers and staff in maintaining the status of the bank as the biggest bank in its class in the entire Ilocos and Cordillera Regions with twenty-nine (29) banking offices. The bank also reached another milestone by breaching the P3Billion mark in total resources as of December 31, 2018. Compared to the previous year, the bank posted a growth of 17% in total assets to reach this new plateau.
Chairman Nisce also presented the bank’s highlights for the year 2018. One is the BSP’s renewal of the bank’s authority as accredited Rural Financial Institution (RFI) for Agri-Agra Compliance. The bank also received the 2018 Balikat ng Bayan National Award from SSS. Other accomplishments are the opening of two branches in San Fernando City and Rosario, La Union and engaging local communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.
The bank offers regular and special deposit accounts, time deposits, demand deposits and Kiddie savers deposit accounts to its clientele. The hard work and dedication of Rang-ay bankers under the leadership of its officers, contributed to the bank’s continued growth. The bank’s growing loan portfolio is a concrete manifestation of the bank’s fulfillment of its mission to make credit readily accessible to the countryside. Loans extended to borrowers show lending to agriculture and SME still a large part of Bank’s loan portforlio.

ROTARY PDG RUDY NISCE FOUNDATION

The Board of Trustees of the Rotary PDG (Past District Governor) Rudy Nisce Foundation Inc. hosted the Rotary Club of SFLU meeting held last May 28, 2019 at Oasis Country Resort, San Fernando City, La Union. Some scholars of the foundation were invited to talk namely: Christian Derylle Villanueva, Erica Ballesterol and Chelsea Chan, who expressed their thanks for the financial aid which help them reach their goals in life, providing them a brighter future. Renelyn Estrada, one of the first graduates of the Foundation and now a DepEd Teacher 3, was represented by her husband Harold, likewise a DepEd teacher. She shared her life experiences and how her college scholarship eased their financial burden which inspired her to help others and give back to the community.
The foundation is a tribute to the civic-consciousness and professional excellence of the late Rotary PDG Atty. Rodolfo “Rudy” M. Nisce. As a further tribute, the Rotary Club of San Fernando, La Union dedicates the week of his birthday (May 23) as PDG Rudy Nisce Week.
PARTICIPATING IN LOCAL FESTIVALS

The Philippines is known to have a long list of festivals. It is a fact that Filipinos enjoy the celebration and have fun together. Festivals in the Philippines are varied and depict the culture and tradition of each of the cities and towns. Rang-ay Bank welcomed the fiesta season by supporting and joining scheduled activities in three (3) different local festivals of different municipalities where the bank is located.
On April 30, 2019, Dagupan City (Pangasinan) celebrated its Annual Bangus Festival where people grilled hundreds of bangus along the De Venecia Road. Bankers of Dagupan Branch participated in the main highlight of the festival which is the Kalutan ed Dalan (Bangusan Street Party) where the bankers manned a booth and grilled bangus as part of the celebration. The staff also distributed giveaways and flyers to the locals and visitors.
Officers and staff of Agoo (La Union) branch led by Manager Aldyne Dela Cruz participated in the 15th Dinengdeng Festival by joining the grand civic parade last May 1, 2019. Dinengdeng which is also called “Abraw”, is a regional Ilocano dish composed of different vegetables with grilled fish. The staff distributed flyers, newsletters, giveaways and candies to the people who watched the parade.
Bacnotan (La Union) celebrated its 11th Diro Festival last May 2, 2019. “Diro” is an Ilocano term for honey which symbolizes unity and oneness for the Bacnoteñans. It is also the Bacnotan’s “One Town, One Product” under the program of the DTI. Officers and staff from Head Office and Bacnotan branch joined the float parade and distributed giveaways to the townspeople.
